On the eastern point of Comino we can find the dive site Lantern Point. It is a dive full of swim throughs and tunnels that lead from the shallow top of the reef leading us down to 40 metres depth. Out of all the cavern or cave dives that we do around the Maltese Islands, Lantern point is the most interesting in terms of different overhead environments, corals and colours around the site and marine life we can spot.
As we find this dive site on Comino island, it is another dive only accessible by boat which we typically only dive during our summer season, from April to November. After jumping into the water we find ourselves above the top of the reef, a shallow depth of around 6-8 metres before you reach the drop off. There is a tunnel to swim through leading from the top of the reef down and along to exit at 16 metres. This dive can be done as an open water diver, once leaving the tunnel you can explore along the reef up to 18 metres before making your way shallow again. If you are advanced or higher, the reef has many more swim throughs and overhangs. Often we find lobsters hanging out in the darker areas.
Due to its location on the island, we can very often find currents here that can have an impact on the dive but also bring more marine life. We find a lot of moral eels and octopus spread along the reef wall, but sometimes barracuda and rays in the open waters and smaller fish swimming along the currents.
