Cirkewwa is the most popular destination to dive in Malta and thankfully the closest located to our centre. The site is a marine protected area meaning no boat traffic is found here besides dive boats and trawling and spearfishing is prohibited.
The dives here are along a beautiful reef wall, spanning from the shallows up to 20 metres. You can find a lot of life around this area such as octopus, cuttlefish, nudibranchs, moray eels, scorpion fish and sometimes in the sand stingrays. The reef also has some interesting features with swim-throughs and cut outs shaped into the rocks. On the far right of the reef you have Cirkewwa arch, a naturally occurring arch with a maximum depth of 18 metres making it a perfect open water dive. The arch has a huge opening below and once you swim underneath you are located inside a bowl shape in the rocks with many cracks and crevices to find hidden marine life.
The diving site is not only perfect for diving but it is set up with benches in order to kit up easily, toilets and showers for after the dives and during the summer a snack van for food in the surface interval. The shore access is not challenging, with ladders and steps cut into the rocks making out entry and exit simple.
