The Blue Hole at Gozo has to be one of the most popular sites in Gozo and for good reason! Before 2017 it was home to the Azure window which then collapsed during a powerful storm. Now the site has become more interesting since the rocks fell into the sea, falling on top of one another creating places to swim underneath and marvel over the enormity of these boulders.
We enter for the dive in the blue hole itself which has a shelf around to put on fins and walk carefully into the water. The depth at the bottom of the hole is 15 metres but the dive can range anywhere from 15 to 50 metres. If you have the advanced or deep specialty, then we can explore as many of the swim throughs in between the boulders slowly descending down and then making our way up around the boulders in the shallows. At the end of the dive, before ascending in the hole to do the safety stop, we can explore the massive the big cave that stretches behind the blue hole. This makes the best view of the light descending the hole and coming through the arch that takes you to open water. This dive is great for both open water dives, advanced and higher.
The walk down to Blue Hole is not the easiest as we have to walk over a few boulders and then wade through some shallow water before getting to the hole itself. Another way we can do the dive is from the inland sea and use our SUEX scooters to take us round to do the dive. The walk from inland sea is much easier, the swim is obviously easy as the scooter is doing all the hard work for us and the time of the dive tends to be very similar.
